Our Story

Hi I'm Kat! Welcome to Ramana Surf. This brand was born from a very personal place. After being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2023, surfing - something l've always loved - suddenly came with new challenges. My diabetes educator told me I had to carry emergency glucose with me in the water, in case I had a hypo (low blood sugar) and couldn't get back to shore in time to treat it... this could be life threatening.

Carrying glucose with me whilst surfing was a huge challenge. There was no security in stuffing a glucose pouch into my bikini top.

Everywhere I tried either chafed my skin, fell out while duck diving, or just got in the way. And honestly, I couldn't stop thinking about it, whether it was still there, if it would hold, if I was safe. It was exhausting. My lifeline didn't feel secure, and that took away a lot of the joy and freedom I used to feel in the ocean.

So I decided to create my own swimwear with a pocket for my glucose pouch knowing that other women face the same challenge as me - needing a secure place to keep keys, earrings, lip balm... basically anything you've ever thought, "I wish I had a pocket for this" safe when you're in your bikini.

I wanted to create something I could trust. Something that gave me back my confidence, my peace of mind, and my freedom to truly enjoy being in the water again.
